Principal's Recap

Sandy Hollinger
December 2000 to March 2003

Sandra Hollinger was appointed principal of Eastside High School in December of 2000 after having previously served as Director of Staff Development for Alachua County Public Schools and principal of J. J. Finley Elementary School. During her tenure at Eastside, Phil Wright, Frankie Hill, Diana Brantley, Michael Thorne, Veita Carter, and Brad Burklew all served as assistant principals.

While she was principal, the new ninth grade classroom building was completed and other substantial facilities and landscaping improvements were made. Hollinger oversaw a Southern Association of Colleges and Schools accreditation process during the 2002-2003 school year. According to Hollinger, the hiring and development of faculty and staff with the goal of providing effective teaching to meet the needs of all students was one of her greatest contributions to the school during her tenure. Hollinger recalls the student fine arts and athletic events as some of her most memorable moments at Eastside but considers her fondest and favorite memories the conversations that she shared with students. In April 2003, Hollinger was promoted to Deputy Superintendent of Curriculum and Student Support Services for Alachua County Schools.
